Designed by NightRaider, the DRS-TH Lens Protector is a comprehensive protection system engineered specifically for the Holosun DRS-TH Thermal Red Dot Sight. It protects the optic's most vulnerable optical components while preserving the functionality and compact design of the original sight.

Unlike a basic lens cover, the NightRaider DRS-TH protection system is designed to protect both the sensitive Germanium thermal objective lens and the red dot window. The system combines an optical-grade multi-coated Germanium sacrificial lens, a custom-cut titanium honeycomb protector and a multi-hit polycarbonate red dot protector.

The main protector body is manufactured from specially selected semi-rigid thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). Its combination of flexibility and impact resistance allows the protector to absorb repeated impacts without the brittle failure associated with conventional rigid plastics, while maintaining compatibility with the factory flip-down cover and rubber bikini covers.

Version 2 – Improved Retention & Reliability

The NightRaider DRS-TH Lens Protector Version 2 introduces significant improvements to the original retention and installation system. The previous tab-based sacrificial lens retention design has been replaced with a TPU O-ring retention system.

The new system provides a more secure hold for the sacrificial optical components under impact, vibration and demanding field conditions. It also simplifies the retention interface while maintaining the replaceable nature of the protective lenses.

NightRaider has also refined the interface for the factory rubber storage cap, providing a more positive and reliable fit while preserving the functionality of the original Holosun optic covers.

Protection for the Holosun DRS-TH Thermal Lens

The thermal objective is one of the most important components to protect on the Holosun DRS-TH. Thermal optics require specialised materials because conventional glass does not provide the required transmission characteristics for long-wave infrared thermal imaging.

The NightRaider system therefore uses an optical-grade multi-coated Germanium sacrificial lens specifically optimized for the 8–14 µm thermal wavelength range. The sacrificial lens sits in front of the factory Germanium objective, providing a replaceable protective barrier between the original thermal lens and potential impacts.

Optical-Grade Germanium Sacrificial Lens

The included multi-coated Germanium sacrificial lens provides dedicated protection for the factory DRS-TH thermal objective while maintaining compatibility with the wavelength range used by the thermal imaging system.

NightRaider testing demonstrated resistance to a 0.2g BB travelling at up to 350 fps. The sacrificial lens was also tested against UTM and Simunition impacts at point-blank range without penetration.

Important: the Germanium component is intentionally sacrificial and is not multi-impact rated. Following a significant impact, the protective lens should be inspected and replaced if damaged.

Titanium Honeycomb Thermal Protector

The system also incorporates a custom-cut titanium honeycomb protector. The honeycomb structure provides a lightweight physical barrier in front of the thermal objective while maintaining the open structure required for thermal imaging.

Unlike the sacrificial Germanium lens, the titanium honeycomb component is designed to provide multi-impact protection, adding another level of physical protection to the DRS-TH thermal objective.

Multi-Hit Polycarbonate Red Dot Protector

Protection is not limited to the thermal objective. The DRS-TH's red dot window is protected by a dedicated multi-hit polycarbonate lens designed to resist repeated impacts, debris and demanding training environments.

This provides protection for both major optical surfaces of the DRS-TH rather than focusing exclusively on the thermal objective.

Semi-Rigid TPU Construction

The main NightRaider protector body is manufactured from a specially selected semi-rigid thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). The material was selected to combine structural support with controlled flexibility and impact absorption.

Rather than behaving like a brittle rigid plastic under impact, TPU can flex and absorb energy. This makes it particularly suitable for a protective component intended to experience repeated knocks, vibration and physical contact during use.

Compatible with Factory Holosun Covers

The NightRaider DRS-TH Lens Protector has been designed around the existing functionality of the optic. The system maintains compatibility with the factory flip-down cover and rubber bikini covers, allowing the original protective accessories to continue being used.

Version 2 further refines the factory rubber storage cap interface to provide a more positive and reliable fit.

Tested Impact Protection

The optical-grade Germanium sacrificial component has been tested by NightRaider against a 0.2g BB at velocities up to 350 fps, as well as UTM and Simunition impacts at point-blank range without penetration.

These results apply to the stated NightRaider testing conditions and should not be interpreted as a guarantee against every possible projectile, impact energy or environmental condition. The Germanium lens remains a sacrificial component and should be replaced following damage or a significant impact.
